In order to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis, the treating doctor performs various examinations. Firstly, they identify whether symptoms of the disease and further signs of rheumatoid arthritis are present.
A blood count can indicate certain parameters that are typical in those affected by the disease. The doctor can use various imaging procedures to determine the severity of the disease: X-ray images show already existing damage to the joints.
MRI can be used to examine the condition of the joints and bones. An ultrasound examination can visualise so-called joint effusion, i.e. the build-up of fluid in the joint, and changes to the synovial membrane.
