Non-infectious uveitis
There is a distinction between acute uveitis and non-infectious uveitis. Non-infectious uveitis may be acute, or be present over a longer period of time (chronic). Acute uveitis can be infectious if it was triggered by an infection. However, the chronic inflammatory non-infectious uveitis is not infectious.
Possible symptoms of conjunctivitis and uveitis are often very similar. However, in contrast to non-infectious uveitis, conjunctivitis is almost always infectious. As early treatment is important in both cases in order to maintain eyesight, if you have red or painful eyes, please consult an ophthalmologist immediately who can determine the cause.
Please always speak with the doctor treating you before you stop taking your medication or reduce the dose – otherwise, regression will often occur, which, in the worst case, your current medication may no longer be able to control.
There is currently no cure for the chronic inflammatory non-infectious disease. However, early therapy can control the inflammation, so that your day-to-day life is restricted as little as possible.
