Juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Diagnosis
In order to diagnose juvenile idiopathic arthritis, the treating doctor performs various examinations. Firstly, they determine whether fundamental symptoms of the disease are present. A blood count can be used to identify certain genetic traits that are typical in those affected by the disease. The doctor can also use various imaging procedures to determine the severity of the disease: X-ray images show already existing damage to the joints, MRI can be used to examine the condition of the joints and bones and an ultrasound examination can visualise so-called joint effusion and changes to the synovial membrane.
